Championship BTTS Stats: Seasons, Prices and Half-Time Odds

Two decades of Championship results show BTTS sitting just above a coin flip. Favourite prices and the half-time score move it far more than the season does.

The Championship has a reputation for chaos, and the BTTS record mostly supports it. Across 11,590 completed league matches from 2005/06-2025/26, both teams scored in 52.1%, which converts to fair odds of 1.92 for Yes and 2.09 for No. That is a coin flip leaning slightly towards goals at both ends. The more useful information is in the detail: season swings, the favourite's price and, above all, the half-time score.

Home sides scored in 76.5% of matches and away sides in 67.8%, so the visitors usually decide this bet. I walk through four charts below in the order I use them. For the match-level view, head to today's BTTS tips, where I apply this reading to each day's card. One point before the numbers: no BTTS prices are in this data, so every fair odd here is what the observed rate implies, not a verdict on what bookmakers actually quote.

§ 1BTTS rate holds near halfway with few real outliers

The line rarely strays far from the middle. The peak was 2012/13 at 57.4% and the low point was 2020/21 at 45.3%, the empty-stadium season. Those are the only big departures in two decades of data. The first five seasons averaged 52.8% and the last five 51.3%, a drift of −1.5 points, which is modest for a league that changes this much from one season to the next.

The most recent full season, 2025/26, landed at 56.9% across 552 matches, close to the top of the range. I treat that as a hot year rather than a new normal. In this file, peaks like it have tended to settle back towards the long-run rate.

§ 2Short-priced favourites pull BTTS Yes below the league average

This is the table I lean on most. With a favourite under 1.40, BTTS Yes landed 48.3% over 203 matches, fair 2.07. At 1.40-1.69 it was 48.8%, fair 2.05. Once the favourite drifts to 2.50+, the rate climbs to 53.1% across 1,779 matches, fair 1.88 Yes and 2.13 No.

The pattern matches what I see on the pitch. A dominant side often cuts off the underdog's attacking routes, while two evenly matched Championship sides trade spells of pressure and leave gaps. Treat the shortest band with care, though. With only 203 matches, its ±6.9 range means a few points either way could be chance.

2.50+1,77953.1%±2.31.882.13

Most of the league sits in the 2.00-2.49 band, at 52.5% over 5,341 matches with fair odds of 1.90. That is where most of your decisions will fall, and it sits almost exactly on the overall average.

§ 3A 0-0 half-time sinks BTTS Yes far below average

Only 17.7% of the 11,589 matches with a recorded half-time score already had both teams on the scoresheet at the break. Most of this market is decided after the interval. From 0-0, the most common half-time state with 3,677 matches, BTTS Yes landed just 26.6%. The second half is rarely long enough for both sides to break through.

The split by which side leads is the part I find most useful. A 1-0 home lead ended BTTS Yes 46.9% of the time across 2,435 matches. When the away side led 0-1, the hosts replied often enough for 58.0% across 1,901. Even a 2-0 home lead still finished BTTS Yes in 47.1% of 754 matches, because sides two up rarely shut up shop completely and the trailing visitors have nothing to lose.

A home side chasing a deficit at its own ground keeps pushing bodies forward, and that game state produces the reply. A trailing away side is a less dependable source of the second scorer.

§ 4BTTS Yes and Over 2.5 usually arrive together

The heatmap splits every match into four boxes. BTTS Yes with Over 2.5 covered 38.9% and BTTS No with Under 2.5 covered 39.2%, so most matches settle both markets the same way. The other two boxes are where the bets part company. A 1-1 accounts for 13.1%, and one side scoring three or more without reply accounts for 8.7%.

If you back BTTS Yes in a combined bet, the 1-1 is your main risk. If you back BTTS No, it is the one-sided win by three or more. Pricing each leg separately before combining keeps that risk visible.

Almanac verdict

Read the favourite's price
With the favourite under 1.70, the Yes rate sat at 48.3% and 48.8%, below the 52.1% league figure, and at 2.50+ it rose to 53.1%. Use the 1X2 market as a guide to how open the match is likely to be.
Discount hot seasons
2025/26 ran at 56.9%, but the long-run rate is 52.1% and the last five seasons averaged 51.3%. Start from the long-run figure before chasing a streak.
Favour the home reply in-play
From 0-1 at half-time, BTTS landed 58.0%, against 46.9% from 1-0. A trailing home side is the more reliable route to both teams scoring, while a 0-0 break leaves Yes at 26.6%.

Questions bettors ask

How often do both teams score in the Championship?

Across 11,590 matches from 2005/06-2025/26, BTTS Yes landed 52.1% of the time and No 47.9%. That implies fair odds of 1.92 for Yes and 2.09 for No.

What are the BTTS chances if it is 0-0 at half-time in the Championship?

From 0-0 at the break, 26.6% of 3,677 matches finished with both teams scoring. That is roughly half the full-match rate of 52.1%.

Does a big favourite make BTTS less likely in the Championship?

Modestly, yes. With the favourite under 1.40, BTTS Yes landed 48.3% over 203 matches (fair 2.07), compared with 53.1% when the favourite was 2.50+. The small sample gives the shortest band a ±6.9 range, so treat it as a lean rather than a rule.
