League Two BTTS Stats: Clubs, Recent Form and Fair Odds
Both teams score in just over half of League Two matches. Club identity moves that number far more than recent form or the match price does.

- League Two matches ending BTTS Yes51.7%
- Fair odds for BTTS Yes (1 ÷ rate)1.94
- Fair odds for BTTS No (1 ÷ rate)2.07
- BTTS when 8-10 of last 10 club games were BTTS53.5%
League Two has a reputation for chaos, so you might expect both teams to score most weekends. The real question for a bettor is narrower: how often does it happen, which clubs push it up or down, and do form streaks or the 1X2 price tell you anything the base rate doesn't? I've worked through 11,476 completed matches to find out.
The headline is close to a coin flip. Both teams scored in 51.7% of matches, which implies fair odds of 1.94 for Yes and 2.07 for No. That baseline anchors everything on my GG/NG predictions page for this division. The clubs at either end of the table drift well away from it, while form and favourite price barely move the needle.
§ 1Swindon and Notts County top League Two's BTTS table
This table covers the 36 clubs with 100 or more League Two matches since 2016/17, a window in which BTTS landed in 51.6% of 5,404 matches. The top and bottom six show the spread. Swindon sit highest at 58.4% across 358 matches, fair odds 1.71, with Notts County just behind at 58.3%. At the other end, Gillingham managed only 42.6% across 183 matches, fair odds 2.35, with Scunthorpe on 43.4%.
The home and away columns are where I spend my time. Swindon were at 61.8% away against 55.0% at home, which reads to me like a side that kept leaving space when travelling. Gillingham stayed low both ways, 44.0% at home and 41.3% away, and that consistency suggests a defensive habit rather than a run of awkward fixtures.
| Club | Matches | BTTS Yes | At home | Away | Fair odds |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Swindon | 358 | 58.4% | 55.0% | 61.8% | 1.71 |
| Notts County | 276 | 58.3% | 58.7% | 58.0% | 1.72 |
| Barnet | 138 | 57.2% | 56.5% | 58.0% | 1.75 |
| Doncaster | 184 | 57.1% | 53.3% | 60.9% | 1.75 |
| Hartlepool | 138 | 56.5% | 55.1% | 58.0% | 1.77 |
| Mansfield | 358 | 56.1% | 57.9% | 54.4% | 1.78 |
| Tranmere | 321 | 46.1% | 43.8% | 48.4% | 2.17 |
| Cambridge | 267 | 45.7% | 50.4% | 41.0% | 2.19 |
| Yeovil | 138 | 45.7% | 40.6% | 50.7% | 2.19 |
| AFC Wimbledon | 138 | 43.5% | 42.0% | 44.9% | 2.30 |
| Scunthorpe | 129 | 43.4% | 43.1% | 43.8% | 2.30 |
| Gillingham | 183 | 42.6% | 44.0% | 41.3% | 2.35 |
One honest warning before you lean on any row. League Two clubs come and go through promotion and relegation, so many of these rates rest on only a handful of seasons. A few points' difference between neighbouring clubs can be pure chance. No quoted BTTS prices were tested either, so these fair odds are benchmarks, not proof that value exists.
§ 2Recent BTTS form nudges the rate only slightly
Bettors love a streak, so I tested one. For each match I counted how many of the two clubs' previous league games, five each, had ended BTTS Yes. Across the 10,204 matches where both clubs had five games behind them, the average was 51.8%.
When the streak was cold, 0-3 of 10, BTTS landed 50.7% of the time across 1,528 matches, −1.1 points against the average. When it was hot, 8-10 of 10, it reached 53.5% across 774 matches, +1.7 points. The direction makes sense, but the size is modest.
Last 5 = each club’s previous five league matches in the same season.

| Points vs average | |
|---|---|
| 0-3 of 10 (1,528) | −1.1% |
| 4-5 of 10 (4,310) | −0.5% |
| 6-7 of 10 (3,592) | +0.8% |
| 8-10 of 10 (774) | +1.7% |
My reading is that short-term form carries a faint echo of how teams are really set up, such as a shaky keeper or a full-back being targeted. But five games is a thin slice, and the market reacts to streaks faster than the effect justifies. I treat a hot run as a tiebreaker, never as the reason for a bet.
§ 3Short-priced favourites trim BTTS a little in League Two
Game state drives this market, so I expected the 1X2 price to matter. When the favourite was priced 1.40-1.69, BTTS landed in 49.8% of 1,087 matches. In tight games, with the favourite at 2.50+, it rose to 52.2% across 1,725 matches. The busy 2.00-2.49 band sat at 52.3% over 5,682 matches.
The logic holds up when you watch these games. A clear favourite is more likely to score early and then defend its lead, and the weaker side may never get a foothold. Evenly matched teams tend to trade spells of pressure, which leaves both goalkeepers exposed.
View the data: league two btts by favourite's price
| BTTS Yes rate by the favourite's 1X2 odds (matches in brackets) | |
|---|---|
| 1.40-1.69 (1,087) | 49.8% |
| 1.70-1.99 (2,656) | 51.4% |
| 2.00-2.49 (5,682) | 52.3% |
| 2.50+ (1,725) | 52.2% |
Even so, the gap between the shortest band and the evenly matched games is only a couple of points. In this division the price tells you about the shape of a match more than it changes the BTTS answer.
§ 4Low-scoring draws and one-goal wins dominate BTTS Yes
This chart breaks down the 5,929 matches that ended BTTS Yes by final score. 1-1 alone was 25.5%, ahead of 2-1 at 16.9% and 1-2 at 14.4%. Taken together, 56.8% of BTTS Yes results had three goals or fewer, and 43.2% had four or more.
That matters if you combine markets. Pairing BTTS Yes with an overs line that needs at least three goals removes the most common outcome, 1-1, entirely. The scores outside the top eight still made up 12.4%, so the long tail of wild results is real but small.

Almanac verdict
- Start from the baseline
- Anything shorter than 1.94 on BTTS Yes in League Two needs a specific reason, because that is what the 51.7% base rate implies. Price the match from the base first and then adjust.
- Weight club identity first
- The club spread runs from Swindon's 58.4% to Gillingham's 42.6%, much wider than the form or price effects. Check the away split too, since Swindon reached 61.8% on the road.
- Don't chase hot streaks
- A run of 8-10 BTTS results across both clubs' last five games each lifted the rate only to 53.5%. Use it to break a tie, not as the main reason for the bet.
